Hazardous tree identification

Hazardous tree identification is an area where it is wise to consult with an arborist, preferably an ISA Certified Arborist. By inspecting thousands of healthy trees an experienced arborist knows when there may be something wrong with a tree or the tree may be a hazardous tree. Having periodic tree inspections by an arborist is an especially good idea if you have mature landscape trees. As a tree ages the likelihood of a hazardous condition developing increases.

Here is a brief list of what an arborist looks for when determining hazardous tree identification:

• Fungal growth on a tree trunk.
• Bulges in a tree trunk.
• Cracks in a tree trunk or cracks in large limbs.
• Raised soil around the base of the tree or a leaning tree.
• Creaking or cracking noise in a tree.
• Mushrooms growing under a tree.
• Cavities in a tree trunk or in large limbs.
