A professional tree service will give you an estimate for tree work in writing. The lowest price isn’t the best price if not as much tree care work is going to be provided.

Most professional tree services don’t do door to door soliciting. You should be cautious if an “arborist” shows up unexpectedly and announces that you have a tree that should be removed as soon as possible. Door to door tree care salesmen often use scare tactics. It’s usually in your best interest to let them leave an estimate at the door and tell them you’ll call them if you’re interested, then call another tree service for a second opinion.

It’s easy to find a tree service near your home, but finding a tree service near your home that provides quality tree care work takes a little more research. It is worth looking into the qualifications of a tree service. It takes several years to grow a decent sized tree and a poor tree pruning job or poor advice on the care of trees in your landscape could disfigure or shorten the lifespan of your trees.

Here are some tips to use when you need to find a tree service near your home:

  • Look for a tree service that has arborists certified by the International Society of Arboriculture. Certifications include Certified Tree Worker/Climber; ISA Certified Arborist; Board Certified Master Arborist. Arborists that receive these certifications have shown a commitment to providing quality tree care and must continually attend tree care seminars or classes in keep their certification current.
  • Does the tree service belong to professional tree care industry organizations? The two biggest tree care industry organizations are the International Society of Arboriculture and the Tree Care Industry Association. The tree service may also be a member of a statewide tree care or landscape related organization.
  • Check to see if the tree service is a member of the Better Business Bureau or the local Chamber of Commerce?
  • Make sure the tree service has proper insurance coverages. If the tree service is not insured the property owner could be held liable for any damages or injuries that occur while the tree service is working on the property.
  • Ask the tree service to provide you with references so you can see the quality of tree care you could expect from them and if their past clients were happy with them.
