Citrus Tree Spraying

Backyard citrus trees are common throughout the Malibu area. Several insect and disease pests target citrus trees. Some of these insect and disease pests can cause low quality citrus fruit or even lead to the decline of your citrus trees. We can help with common problems with citrus trees in Malibu, such as, Peach Leaf Curl, Scale Insects, Aphids, and Asian Citrus Psyllid which can cause Citrus Greening Disease.

Tree & Shrub Fertilization

A comprehensive tree health program often includes tree fertilization. Trees in an urban environment like Palos Verdes Estates face many more stress factors than their woodland relatives. Trees planted in low quality urban soils often benefit from the addition of extra nutrients in the form of tree fertilization. After a thorough inspection of your trees and shrubs our arborists can recommend a complete tree maintenance program that may include tree fertilization for some or all of your landscape plants.

Tree Diagnosis & Tree Consultation

A proper tree preservation and tree maintenance plan begins with a diagnosis of the current condition of your trees and shrubs. Our tree maintenance recommendations are customized because they are based on the particular trees and shrubs on your property. High maintenance trees may require tree spraying or feeding every time we visit, while other trees may require little or no extra care in order to thrive. Our arborists will take the time to discuss and care for special trees on your property.

Insect Pest Control For Trees & Shrubs

Both native insect pests and invasive insects thrive in the mild climate of Rolling Hills. Keeping landscape trees and shrubs healthy often means applying insect control treatments. Sims Tree Health Specialists accomplishes this with tree spraying, soil insecticide injections, and tree trunk injections. For certain insect and mites pests we offer certified organic insect and mite control treatments. Our arborists and tree specialists are familiar with the insect pests commonly found in Rolling Hills and can help you control:

•Aphid Insects
•Asian Citrus Psyllid
•Leaf Eating Caterpillars
•Leafminer Insects
•Lerp Psyllid Insects
•Scale Insects
•Spider Mites
•Tree Borer Insects

Considering the high cost of landscaping and landscape plants in Rolling Hills it is more cost efficient to protect your existing trees and shrubs rather than buy new plants.

Pre & Post Construction Care For Trees

Trees are often negatively affected by construction activities. The biggest impact from construction is due to tree root damage. Soil compaction, disposal of caustic materials in the root zone, piling soil over root systems, and trenching are common construction activities that damage tree roots. Consulting with our arborists before construction begins can avoid all of these tree-damaging conditions. Even when pre-construction care is neglected, we can still save many construction damaged trees if immediate action is taken. Caring for trees in construction areas may include:

•Mulching over root systems to prevent soil compaction
•Providing a tree survey before construction begins
•Tree preservation plans for historic trees, protected trees, or heritage trees
•Root zone aeration with our air spade
•Monitoring trees during construction
•Providing insect or disease control treatments
•Supplemental tree watering during construction
•Radial trenching to encourage tree root development
•Restoring the soil grade over tree root zones
•Soil injecting root stimulants, beneficial fungi, or bacteria to improve root growth
•Vertical mulching to reduce soil compaction & incorporate organic matter into the soil

AGRICULTURE OFFICIALS ASK FOR HELP IN DETECTING CITRUS PEST

Glendale, CA

As part of their insect eradication program, state agriculture officials are increasing education efforts regarding the Asian Citrus Psyllid. The Asian Citrus Psyllid was first found in Glendale in 2009.

The Asian Citrus Psyllid doesn’t harm citrus trees by feeding on them; rather it has the potential to transmit a deadly tree disease called Citrus Greening Disease. So far no cure has been developed for Citrus Greening Disease.

California agriculture officials are asking homeowners to inspect their citrus trees at least once per month to look for the Asian Citrus Psyllid. Tree inspections can be done whenever watering or pruning citrus trees. Homeowners should be especially vigilant when their citrus trees are putting out new growth, as the Asian Citrus Psyllid prefers to feed on the new citrus leaves.

Homeowners can report any Asian Citrus Psyllid infestations to the California Department of Agriculture’s exotic-pest hotline at 800-491-1899.
