Since it was first discovered in Allentown, PA in 1998 the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug has made its presence known in orchards, gardens, on landscape trees and shrubs, and even inside the homes of Essex Fells residences. The Brown Marmorated Stinkbug feeds on a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and plant leaves, including several species of landscape trees and shrubs. It appears this insect has no natural enemies in the United States and each insect can live up to three years.
After the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug spends the summer dining on your valuable landscape plants it looks for a place to hibernate during the winter. Unfortunately, its preferred overwintering location is inside your home. This is when homeowners realize that this invasive insect pest really lives up to its name - it puts out a noticeable offensive odor if it’s disturbed in any way.
The Brown Marmorated Stinkbug is mostly brown in color, but also has alternating black and white edging on its shield-shaped back. The antennae of the Brown Marmorated Stinkbug also have alternating black and white coloration. Several tree services that work in Essex Fells can spray trees and shrubs for Brown Marmorated Stinkbug. Spraying trees and shrubs for this insect pest will minimize the amount of damage to your landscape plants and will reduce the number of Brown Marmorated Stinkbugs trying to move into your house for the winter. Perimeter pest control treatments will also discourage some of the Brown Marmorated Stinkbugs from seeking shelter in your home for the winter.
